Kidsteps Early Intervention

Kidsteps, our Birth to Three Early Intervention Program for infants and toddlers, offers specialized support for families with children up to the age of three with varying abilities, including developmental delays and autism. As one of the state's largest Birth to Three providers, Kidsteps brings together a dedicated team of therapists and special educators to assist children and their families across fifty-one towns in Connecticut.

Our team provides family-centered services in natural environments such as family homes, childcare settings, and community locations. Working collaboratively, the therapist and family address the goals for the child that the family has prioritized related to daily routines and activities. The therapist supports the family in advancing the child’s motor, communication, social-emotional, and cognitive skills to achieve their goals.

Each family has a primary therapist who provides service coordination to assist with connecting to community resources and ensuring parent rights are upheld. Kidsteps therapists and special educators live and work within their own communities, making them familiar with the local resources needed to provide effective family support.

The Connecticut Office of Early Childhood contracts Kidsteps to provide Birth to Three early intervention services. The Birth to Three System was created under Part C of the federal law, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and by state law 17a-248.

Isaac's Story

"In a world that is primarily black or white, Isaac prefers grey. He struggled with tasks that you or I may view as easy or basic. Birth to Three has helped Isaac learn how to safely function in society, and provided him with an overall better quality of life."
